Healthy Colon
Scientist have called the digestive systems, “…the most complex ecosystem known.”
The colon is a sophisticated community of microflora ( bacteria )which inhabits the human digestive system. The colon is 400 square meters. Laid out in front of you, it would cover the size of tennis court.
The first part of the colon is the small intestine where all nutrients are absorbed. It is absolutely necessary to have healthy microflora to produce the enzymes needed to help us extract the nutrients we need from the food we eat.
The second part is the large intestine where the used food is stored until it is eliminated.
Food eaten should find its way out in about 10-12 hours. If the colon is not in good health and is constipated, putrification begins.
The purpose of the digestive system is three-fold:
1. To pull nutrients from the foods we eat.
2. To digest these nutrients so they can be absorbed and utilized by the body.
3. To eliminate the harmful by-products, bad bacteria, and waste that are left over.
